Instructions for the Instructional Design Timeline: 1900 to 2008

As a way to begin thinking about and using instructional media and becoming familiar with posting to your
Web space, this first assignment requires you to use a tool to design a brief timeline representing the history
of instructional media based on the Reiser article you read for this unit, "A History of Instructional Design
and Technology Part I: A History of Instructional Media."

When finished, upload your timeline to the Capella server and submit the link in the assignment area.

See Suggested Software and Media Tools Resources for possible application options.

For most of the assignments in the course, you will have your choice of media tool with which to
work, so you may wish to identify the software that you would like to explore. The following list
offers suggestions for software and media tools. As you become more comfortable with the tools,
begin to challenge yourself with new and more complex software with each subsequent assignment.

Many software programs allow for 30-day trials, so be aware that you if you download early, you
may not be able to use it toward the end of the course. This is particularly true with authoring tools
that you examine in Unit 2 and use again in Unit 7 to assemble the links created into your
media portfolio.

In addition, it is a good idea and highly recommended to subscribe to Atomic Learning tutorials.
You may also find tutorials on the Web via an Internet search.
